John Jensen
Guest Instructor - Winter Session
John G. Jensen, born in Tomahawk,Wisconsin is a Professor Emeritus at Armstrong State University where he taught primarily ceramics and sculpture for 35 years.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree with the Chancellor’s Award in art education from the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point and an MFA in Ceramics, Sculpture and Painting from the University of Arizona - Tucson.
While at the University of Arizona he was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assist Award and the Gregson Award - given for what was determined to be the highest quality of art produced that year by a graduate student. He has received numerous awards including a Fellowship in Sculpture by the National Endowment for the Arts, The Kristina Brockmeier and The Dean H. Propst Awards for Excellence in teaching while at Armstrong.
He has been featured in numerous newspaper and magazine articles and has actively exhibited throughout his career. He has travelled extensively and was a visiting artist at universities in Seoul, South Korea, Bogotá, Colombia and at universities in the United States. He is the author of “Ceramic Sculpture: The World of Jensen,” a self published book with over 400 images of his work.
John maintains an active studio - “The Isle of Hope Studio,” at his home where he creates pottery, ceramic and figure sculpture and furniture. He is married to Linda Gibson Jensen, Professor Emeritus Photography at Armstrong and they have two children, a dog and a cat.
