WIDE WARES ON THE WHEEL

Wednesdays, Sept 23-Oct 14, 10 AM - 12:30 PM, Wheel Experience Needed

Service Description

Go beyond the bowl and discover the techniques for throwing beautiful, broad forms that are made to be used and shared. In this four-week wheel class, we’ll focus on platters, serving bowls, pasta bowls, pie plates, and other wide, shallow functional ware. Learn how to confidently center and open lower, wider forms, compress clay to help prevent S-cracks, and shape pieces that dry and fire successfully. We’ll also spend time trimming each piece to create clean lines, balanced proportions, and polished foot rings that elevate your finished work. If you’ve ever struggled with wide forms collapsing, cracking, or warping, this class will give you the skills and confidence to make serving ware that’s both durable and beautiful. Wheel experience required. Perfect for potters ready to expand their functional pottery skills and bring more impressive serving pieces to the table.
